Our
Approach
Feeding is a complex process that goes beyond the act of simply eating food. We consider various aspects of feeding and provide individualized feeding plan that works at your home.
We are aligned with BITES®, The Behavioral InTEgrated with Speech approach, that emphasizes the multidisciplinary collaboration among Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) when assessing feeding difficulties and develop individualized feeding plan.
Components of Behavioural Intervention
Appetite
Manipulation
Optimize the child's appetite by structuring their daily routine
Simultaneous Presentation
Pair preferred food with target food to increase successful consumption
Choice
Offer choices and allow the child some control to promote more active participation in eating
Systematic
Desensitization
Break the process into steps and gradually shape the child's eating behavior
Fading
Slowly fade out the preferred food while increasing the consumption of the target food
Reinforcement
Apply positive or negative reinforcement to encourage the desired eating behavior
Non-contingent Reinforcement
Create a positive connection with eating by combining it with a pleasant environment
High Probability Sequence
Encourage trying a new or more challenging food after eating few bites of an easy and preferred one
Escape
Prevention
Utilize trauma-informed approaches to help the child successfully engage in desired eating behaviors without distress
